EVENT & TICKETSAbout
Founded in 2020
The British Azerbaijani Association was founded in 2020 by Azerbaijanis living in the UK. It is a home for our community: somewhere to keep our traditions alive, support one another and take an active part in British life.
The Association is led by Chairman Hafiz Bakhshaliyev and an elected Board. Our representatives are Nazir Ganiyev in North West England, Hasan Seyfullayev in Wales and Rashadat Taghiyev in Scotland.
We organise cultural and community events, support our community and introduce Azerbaijan’s history, culture and traditions to a wider audience in Britain.
Our network
BAA connects Azerbaijani community organisations and people across the UK, strengthening cooperation, sharing opportunities and supporting community initiatives.

Azerbaijan & heritage
Each region has its own food, crafts and stories. Here are a few introductions to the places many of us call home.

The Old City looks towards the Caspian, with modern Baku beyond its walls. Mugham is another part of the city’s cultural life.

Shusha has a long association with Azerbaijani music and poetry. The Kharibulbul music festival is part of that tradition.

The Khan’s Palace is known for its shebeke windows: coloured glass set into intricate wooden latticework.

Ganja is the birthplace of the poet Nizami Ganjavi.

The Momine Khatun Mausoleum is among Nakhchivan’s historic monuments, known for its geometric decoration.

Tea, citrus fruit and rice are characteristic of the south. Regional dishes and tea served with preserves are part of its food culture.

Carpet weaving is one of Quba’s traditional crafts. The wider region includes mountain villages and different mountain communities.
