British Azerbaijani Association

About the British Azerbaijani Association

Founded in 2020, BAA brings Azerbaijanis in Britain together and shares Azerbaijani culture with the wider community.

An Azerbaijani community organisation in the UK

The British Azerbaijani Association is a UK-based community organisation founded by Azerbaijanis living in Britain. We bring people together around the things that give community life its meaning: friendships, family, culture and a willingness to help one another.

Our work connects people across England, Wales and Scotland. London and Barnet are an important base for our local activity, but our outlook extends beyond one borough or city. We welcome families, young people, students and anyone interested in Azerbaijan and its place in British community life.

Culture shared across generations

For some families, Azerbaijan is where they grew up. For others, it is part of a family story they are discovering in Britain. Cultural events, music, food and conversations offer ways to keep those connections alive without expecting everyone to have the same experience or knowledge.

Our gatherings also welcome friends and neighbours from other backgrounds. Sharing a tradition can start a conversation; a community event can introduce people who might not otherwise meet. We want BAA to be a place where Azerbaijani heritage and participation in wider British society belong together.

What we do, and what comes next

BAA’s activities include cultural celebrations, community gatherings, sport and opportunities to volunteer. Our Discover Azerbaijan guides introduce the country’s heritage in English, with sources for further reading.

Leadership and representation

BAA is led by Chairman Hafiz Bakhshaliyev and an elected Board. Our representatives are Nazir Ganiyev in North West England, Hasan Seyfullayev in Wales and Rashadat Taghiyev in Scotland.

Work with us

We welcome conversations with community organisations, councils, cultural practitioners and potential supporters. A useful partnership starts with a real community need and a clear understanding of what each organisation can contribute.
